Anemone flaccida – Asian Windflower

A favorite for the spring garden!

This larger form of the native wood anemone produces its beautifully marbled foliage as early as snowdrops (Galanthus) and spring snowflakes (Leucojum vernum). By the time it blooms, the leaves turn fresh green, providing a perfect backdrop for the chalk-white flowers.
It thrives in moderately moist spring soils with a slightly acidic to neutral pH and prefers partial shade. Although it establishes rather slowly at first, it gradually forms dense, lush colonies over time.
A typical spring geophyte that retreats underground by summer. It combines beautifully with late-emerging woodland perennials such as Rodgersia.
